T-Minus 2026

RIT Industrial Design's 2026 annual design sprint competition "T-Minus" was sponsored by Church & Dwight, providing students the opportunity to collaborate with one another and learn from professionals, all to come up with solutions to real industry problems.

Each group made up of four or five students was given one of Church & Dwight's many holdings to focus on.

Research

We decided to pivot towards a dry shampoo powder rather than aerosol, due to it's many health effects.

Batiste already makes a dry shampoo, but users have many complaints about the way in which it's applied, citing the one small hole on the container as hard to use.

Our Direction

Our group decided to create a new product focused on reimaginating the convenience of dry shampoo.

As Bastiste begins to break into the dry shampoo powder market, we suggest shifting to a more thorough application and innovative way to apply, while sticking to the current visual identity of their products.

Batiste relies on brand loyalists, so a switchup in brand identity was not needed, a simple format switch to fit the circular form of the product was all that was necessary.

The results

Our group was judged by 10 industry professionals from Church & Dwight and came out on top as the best overall design throughout all groups due to having the most thorough, innovative, yet realistic solution.
